From what I remember the GS installer just put it where it wanted and Scribus picked it up just fine. The other way round, Scribus automatically finds it so trashing Scribus then installing GS, then reinstalling Scribus might be easier.

Because many programs packages utilize Data Files, you might be able to find a program on your computer that handles those types of files.
